The British Council in collaboration with the Science Newspaper,
the Romanian Cultural Institute, and the Association for the
Dialogue between Science and Theology in Romania.
What ?
Public debate - Romanian and British specialists in science,
philosophy and theology said their opinion about the relationship
between theory of evolution and religion and answered to the
question: the theory of evolution and religion - can coexist, or
are in conflict?
During the debate, the audience will be able to question panel
members with the help of the event moderator, TV editor Cristian
Tabara. The debate took place between John Hedley Brooke, Mircea
Flonta, Octavian Popescu, Radu Preda and priest Constantin
Necula.

Why ?
In 2009, the British Council marked the 150th anniversary of the
publication of Charles Darwin's work 'On the Origin of Species'.
The events dedicated to that important moment in the history of
civilization were conducted in the United Kingdom and other
countries around the world.
In Romania, the debate "Theory of Evolution and Religion:
Coexistence or Conflict?" was part of the Darwin Now international
project organised by the British Council.
The venue is the Romanian Cultural Institute in Bucharest.
Panellists of the debate were Romanian and British experts in
science, philosophy, and theology. They were discussing whether the
theory of evolution and religion may coexist or not.
John Hedley Brooke, Mircea Flonta, Octavian Popescu, Radu
Preda and Constantin Necula were the debate panel
members.
The event was moderated by the TV editor, Cristian Tabără.
